Capstone, Internship, Thesis

Thesis

ART 403 (4 credits) - All AMT students are required to complete a thesis, which is scheduled during the final winter term.

The thesis operates as a culmination of the understanding of where the students’ work fits within contemporary culture. It allows students to put their work in context to others and ground their visual work with similar artists to better communicate to the appropriate audiences. The thesis work is closely tied to the work done in the Capstone/Internship and WIC.

Students must complete either the Capstone or Internship course to graduate.

This decision is made in collaboration with Program Faculty, who help students explore potential projects and determine the best fit. By Year 3, students should connect with the mentor faculty to begin planning for Capstone (406) or Internship (410). Once a direction is chosen, students can confirm and update their academic plan accordingly.

Capstone

ART 406 (4 credits) - Capstone is taken during the final spring term and is only offered in spring. Projects often build on the student’s thesis work and typically culminate in a public exhibit or presentation.

Internship

ART 410 (minimum 4 credits) - Students can complete the internship any term with approved experiences. Please contact Lauren Seiffert, AMT Program Coordinator, at least two terms in advance with internship plans. AMT interns will observe and/or produce; work is supervised and evaluated, both by the agency and the AMT faculty.

Students are responsible for securing their own internship experience. After securing an internship, students are required to Submit an Experience in Handshake. Once your Handshake experience is approved by your Internship Supervisor, Faculty Advisor, and Academic Advisor, you will receive an email from your Academic Advisor instructing you to register for the course. It is your responsibility to register for the course and the corresponding number of credit hours. Refer to .

Note: If you're choosing the internship in place of the capstone, you must register for at least 4 credits, which equals 120 hours at your internship site. You can earn up to 16 credits, with each credit representing approximately 30 hours of work.
